Yorkshire brick maker adds to glass tower

The York Handmade Brick Company is supplying 70,000 bricks for Shard of Glass skyscraper, in London.

The 87-storey Shard, will, at 310m, be Britain’s tallest building and, while it is primarily built on glass, the first few stories will be brick.

It is the first phase of the £2bn Renzo Piano-designed London Bridge Quarter regeneration project.

York Handmade will also be supplying bricks for the next-door London Bridge Place development.
