WTB Group appoints administrator

After weeks of intense speculation, the heavyside and civil engineering merchant formerly known as Burdens – WTB Trading – has called in the administrators.

Philip Duffy, Steve Clancy and David Whitehouse of Duff & Phelps were appointed Joint Administrators to WTB Trading Limited (formerly Burdens Ltd) on Friday (November 23). They were also appointed over WTB Group Ltd yesterday (November 27).

WTB had already sold 22 branches and the Burdens trading brand to Wolseley UK and two branches to Bradford Building Supplies last week.

Duffy said that the company will continue to be run as a going concern.

“Due to the established name of Burdens and quality of the business we have already been able to sell three of the branches within the group and have had interest expressed in the remaining thirteen. We will continue to trade the company as a going concern whilst we continue discussions with parties interested in acquiring some, or all of the remaining branches.”

The Company had a turnover exceeding £250m with over 750 employees based out of 38 branches throughout the UK prior to the sale of 22 branches to Wolseley plc in October 2012.
