Wolseley UK rejoins BMF fold

Plumbers merchant chain Wolseley UK has rejoined the Builders Merchants Federation after an absence of 12 years.
The group, whose brands include Plumb Center, Burdens, Drain Center, Parts Center, Cilimate Center, bcg and William Wilson, rejoined the BMF on April 1st.

Keith Jones Wolseley UK Consultant Director, has also been appointed Deputy Chair of the BMF’s Plumbing and Heating (P&H) Sector.

BMF MD, John Newcomb, said: “We are delighted to welcome Wolseley UK back in membership and equally delighted that they will be playing a major role in the BMF’s P&H Sector, with Keith Jones taking on the role of Deputy Chair.

“Since its formation a year ago the P&H Sector has established itself as a valuable industry forum within the BMF and with growing support is now set for the next stage of its development.”

Jones, who has more than 30 years’ industry experience, will work alongside P&H Sector Chairman Ron Walker to facilitate sector debates and proactively support the interests of the plumbing and heating industry.

When Wolseley was last a member of the BMF, it had Build Center as part of its portfolio and the BMF had a Retail Members section to accomodate B&Q, which at that time was a member. It was this controversial membership which was a catalyst in the exodus of the major national merchant chains.
