Wolseley to sell off hire business

Brandon Hire, the plant and equipment hire part of builders and plumbers merchant group Wolseley UK, is said to be up for sale.

The Independent on Sunday reports that BDO Stoy Hayward has been appointed to sell the tool hire chain.

Wolseley bought Brandon Hire for £72m in 2006 and spent a huge sum restructuring its existing Hire Center branches into Brandon. It is thought unlikely that Wolseley will achieve anything like the purchase price, following the problems faced by the tool hire sector during the recession.

Interested parties are thought to be Cerberus, RJD Partners, Rutland Partners and turnaround group Endless.
