Walkers acts to avoid bulk bag filling errors

From Avery Weigh-Tronix, the system uses a JCB Teletruck with Avery FLSC Forklift scales and a Bagezee attachment . saved around 35 thousand pounds by switching to using from Avery Weigh-Tronix and avoiding overfilling.

First, the scales are set to tare with the bucket empty. The Teletruck then collects the aggregates from a pile in the yard and the weight is taken by the FLSC Forklift scales. Once the bucket is full, any excess is dropped out through the bottom trap doors. A bulk bag is then attached to the hooks on the side of the bagezee, which is then filled by opening the trap doors.

Andy Coster, office manager says that, previously, operators were estimating the weight of aggregates going in and frequently overfilled them. “Using this system means that there is no guesswork involved, our bulkbags are now exactly one Tonne. There is now no need to worry about the loss of profit from over-filling, and no need to worry about fines from Trading Standards Weights and Measures for under-filling.

“As well as filling bulk bags, the FLSC Forklift Scale System allows for us to load any weight of aggregate onto vehicles directly. We have calculated that by implementing this system we have saved in the region of 35 thousand pounds – by eliminating overfill.
