University Challenge for Buttle’s directors

MBA students at the University of Bedfordshire are helping Buttle’s to develop its future strategy.

University Challenge for Buttle's directors

After being briefed about the company’s objectives, four competing teams of students developed alternative plans for growth and presented them to operations director, Phil Norton, and managing director, William Naylor, at the university’s Postgraduate Centre.

Two teams focused on the company’s overall business strategy, while the others developed Human Resource Strategies. Academics, Dr Pauline Loewenberger and Professor Stephen Hyde, advised the teams.

Professor Hyde said: “MBA students spend a lot of time studying big companies. An SME like Buttle’s is very different- there’s a lot more practice than theory, and meeting hands-on directors like William and Phil gives the students a feel for real business.”
