Unimer reveals record turnover

Builders merchants invoice clearing house United Merchants plc increased turnover by 14% for the year to April 30 2011, its board meeting has revealed.

Unimer reveals record turnover

Unimer processed £876m in terms of transactional value, an all-time record for the organisation, according to managing director Howard Grant. The overall market grew by 7% in terms of turnover, much of it generated by the rise in material costs.

The Unimer board has approved a major investment to replace 90% of all of the major IT systems run within Unimer.

Grant put the growth in share down to Unimer has gained market share by growing the market for its invoice clearing house services and in particular by focusing on working with existing merchant members and suppliers to explore and exploit business opportunities that will benefit both parties.

Membership also grew, with 47 new merchant members and 41 new suppliers.

Grant also reported that Unimer’s four key marketing initiatives are recording successful growth.

  • Procurement for Housing: The responsive repairs supply contract was renewed for a further three years and turnover with Unimer members has grown by 43% over the last year.

  • BuildStore : the participating Unimer merchant network has grown to 264 branches with good product and geographical coverage.

  • eBuildingSupplies: The trading portal is generating around an average of £50 000 of sales enquiries every day for its participating merchant members.

  • Green Energy Centre: The first franchise is fully operational with others to follow.
