Unimer enters joint venture with Buildstore

The aim of the partnership is to facilitate the connection of self builders and major renovators to merchants and suppliers. Buildstore Connections will create a national supply chain network within a common market place.

Merchants and suppliers that join Buildstore Connections will gain access to genuine consumers with real projects, supported by approved finance. Consumers will enjoy access to goods and services at competitive prices, as well as expert advice and support.

Every year, more than 20,000 people in the UK build their own home, spending an average of £70,000 on materials alone – a total spend of £1.4Bn. The market is predicted to grow faster that the traditional housing market over the next five years.

Howard Grant, managing director, United Merchants plc says: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Unimer’s merchant members and our suppliers to maximise their exposure to the growing self build market and to secure quality business leads in the market sector.

“Unimer’s members will be able to create a national supply network of independent merchants more than capable of competing with any national merchant offer.”

Buildstore managing director Tim Doherty says: “Buildstore’s position in the self build market offers Unimer’s merchants and suppliers a unique link with consumers who know what they want and have the finances to pursue their dreams. This is guaranteed business in a growing market sector.”

All Unimer members and suppliers will be receiving a comprehensive mail shot over the next week detailing how Buildstore Connections will work and inviting them to attend road shows around the country where they can fully understand and sign up.
