TP make new non-exec appointment

Travis Perkins has appointed Robert Walker as a non-executive director, with the intention of seeing him succeed Tim Stevenson as non-executive Chairman after the Annual General Meeting in May 2010.
Walker is currently Chairman of WH Smith PLC, BCA Europe Ltd (British Car Auctions), Americana International Holdings Ltd and a non-executive director of Tate & Lyle PLC.

He has previously been Chairman of Williams Lea Group Ltd, Chief Executive of Severn Trent Plc, and a non-executive director of BAA Plc, Signet Group Plc, Thomson Travel Group Plc and Wolseley plc.

Tim Stevenson said: “As our shareholders would expect, we have conducted a thorough search for my successor as Chairman. The board is now pleased to confirm that Robert Walker has accepted the board’s invitation to become a non executive director and to become non-executive Chairman in May next year.

“I have had a very rewarding eight years as Chairman. The Company has grown significantly, developed sustainable market leading positions and successfully met the challenges posed in both recessionary and expansionary periods.
