Independent Lichfield-based builders merchant Walter Tipper has won a medal at its first appearance at the BBC Gardener’s World exhibition.
The “Inside Out Garden”, designed by local gardening contractor G-Scapes, received a Silver Gilt medal from the judges.
The garden was particularly praised for the effect of the stonework and timber sleepers in the kitchen area, the floating timber shelf behind the barbecue, the beautiful colour scheme and the planting and the window shutter effect fencing.
Tippers’ Amy Tipper told buildersmerchantsjournal.net that the garden was incredibly busy from the moment the show opened. “Many people named us as their favourite show garden with frequent comments being that it was something they could pick up and put in their own garden rather than some of the more conceptual designs. Many of them fell in love with the planting and colour scheme, others went for the furniture, fencing, fire pit or barbecue!
“Members of Team Tippers had to learn the correct names for plants, while members of Team G-Scapes learned all about the garden furniture and barbecue.”
The garden was filmed for the BBC with presenter Joe Swift and aired on the Friday evening’s show, which drew more visitors in over the weekend. “Including Cherie Blair,” Tipper said, “who visited the garden on the Sunday.”
Along with supplier Forest Garden Products, Tippers also supported the Edible Patches and Birmingham Borders areas of the show.
