Timber ship disappears after hi-jack

A hi-jacked Russian ship carrying timber was last heard from whilst travelling through the English Channel, according to news reports.
The ship, the Arctic Sea, is believed to be carrying around 2,000cu m of sawn timber from Stora Enso and made contact with the Devon coastguard before a international pol;ice alert went out warning of its possible hi-jack. The ship was last seen in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Portugal.

It is now understood that the Russian-manned vessel was boarded by masked assailants in the Baltic Sea, claiming to be anti-drugs police.

Stora Enso said its timber was been worth around €300,000 and should have arrived in Algeria last week.
