Anne Ganley, managing director of independent builders’ merchant Thompson Building Centres, met Leader of the Opposition Ed Milliband to highlight the success of north east businesses.
Thompson Building Centres was a sponsor of the Labour North Gala Dinner at which Ganley told Milliband that the north east is “open for business”.
Ganley also told Milliband about the construction industry’s “Get Britain Building” campaign and its Plan B initiative which is dedicated to creating 2.5million jobs in the sector.
“I gave him the Plan B document and talked to him about how every pound invested in the construction industry generates £2.94 in economic activity,” she said.
“He was very happy for me to tell him about the campaign and how it is a plan which will revitalise and grow the British economy.
“We had a long discussion on all aspects of business including the growth of the renewables market -both for the North East and for the construction industry as a whole – along with a talk about the banks and the levels of lending.”
