North East independent builders and plumbers’ merchants Thompson Building Centreshas purchased a new fleet of eco friendly vehicles.
The company has taken delivery of seven BMW 320d EfficientDynamics saloons, renowned for their low emissions, which will be used by the company’s sales team.
The energy saving vehicles mean that the drivers will only pay 13% tax as a company car owner, as opposed to the usual rate of 22% on similar, non-eco friendly vehicles.
“We are always looking for ways not only to be more efficient but also to increase the benefits for our staff,” said operations director Brent Ganley.
Thompson’s has also replaced its existing TAPS plumbers merchant vans with seven new Mercedes Benz Sprinters, all fitted with the latest engines which not only consume less fuel but also produce far less exhaust gas emissions.
Last year Thompsons invested £400,000 in new fuel efficient vehicles.
The Volvo HGV vehicles were fitted with an intelligent driving system which monitors a range of factors including fuel consumption, with the information being used to train the drivers in more energy efficient ways of motoring when necessary.
Thompson’s long term plan is to replace all of its fleet of around 40 vehicles with more eco friendly models.
