Stafford builders merchant buys golf club

A builders merchant in Stafford has solved that age-old dilemma of getting the right tee-time at the local golf club – by buying the club.
Chase Golf Club, at Pottal Pool Road in Penkridge, has been bought by Chris Simmons, managing director of Simmons of Stafford Builders’ Merchants.

The club, which has an 18-hole, 6,641-yard par 72 course set in 160 acres was sold by Crown Golf, the UK’s largest golf course owner/operator.

Simmons told buildersmerchantsjournal.net that the purchase is a diversification of business interests. “There’s a lot of potential with this property; it’s a good development opportunity for maybe adding a fitness centre and developing it in that way.”

Chase has a lot of potential. The club house is a huge building and 30 per cent of the site is not developed.

“I am looking at the potential for development of the club.” Simmons said.

Simmons of Stafford was founded in 1975 by Simmons’ father Peter. The builders’ merchants has been at its present site at the Tollgate Industrial estate for the last 16 years.
