Otford Builders Merchants goes pink for charity

Independent builders merchant Otford Builders Merchants has taken on Breast Cancer Care as its designated charity for 2014.

Otford Builders Merchants goes pink for charity

The company has arranged special pink Otford-branded bulk bags and will donate money to the charity for every one sold.

Managing director Alan Boyd says that getting the right charity link-up and the right colour is key in getting builders to purchase a pink bag.

Otford’s new bags aren’t a simpering, pale, blush-pink. Nor are they sparkly Barbie-pink. No, these ones are bright cerise. “A proper manly pink,” Boyd calls them.

Boyd says that as soon as the notion of Breast Cancer Care was mooted everyone in the company immediately supported it. “It’s not just women’s charity. Breast cancer affects men and women. And it’s a sad fact that most of our builder customers will know someone – wives, daughters, aunts, friends – who has been affected by it.”

The company kicked off its fundraising by raising £500 on the day the pink bulk bags were delivered with donations from aggregate suppliers Hye Oak Ltd, and Day Aggregates as well as a pink cake sale and raffle with cakes donated by Sainsbury, Tesco and Waitrose.

” We aim to hold further fundraising efforts during the year and will be holding a charity football match in May.”
