Builders merchant buying group NMBS has secured the services of Olympic specialist sports reporter, James Pearce, for its 2014 conference in June.
Pearce spent 21 years working at the BBC, chiefly as a sports correspondant before going freelance last year.
He was based in Plymouth for a couple of years, initially as a news reporter and then took up the role of sports presenter, before being asked to move to the BBC’s national sports news department in London,
Pearce has covered eight Olympics, including the recent Winter Olympics in Sochi and his was the ‘go-to’ Twitter account for information about ticket availability for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
In his role as Olympics Correspondent, Pearce was one of the first to break the rumour that London would be making a bid to host the Games.
He was broadcasting live in Singapore in 2005, alongside Sue Barker, when London won the vote to host the Olympics and Paralympics and lead the BBC’s News coverage of the London Olympics and Paralympics all the way from 2001, when a 2012 bid was first discussed, through to the Games of last summer.
The event is running from 19-22 June at the Gran Melia Palacio de Isora hotel in Tenerife.
Key speakers for the conference have already been confirmed with former England rugby head coach Sir Clive Woodward, brand expert Rita Clifton and Government chief construction advisor Peter Handsford all set to appear.
