NMBS break through EDI ceiling

As of October 2008, 82.7% of supplier invoices (91% by value) to NMBS, the National Merchant Buying Society, were sent electronically.
This is in excess of NMBS’s own upper threshold trading limit, set as a result of seven years of research by NMBS’s Dr Martin Jackson. This identified a virtual ceiling for the volume of trade conducted by builders merchant’s suppliers of 80%, because traditionally the building industry has always lagged behind many other industries with respect to the adoption of electronic trading techniques as a means of transferring business documentation.

The electronic traffic that NMBS is currently receiving includes traditional EDI, XML and WEB-forms.
