With the workforce being predominantly male, the merchant decided to bring some glamour to the company and thought it would be fun to dress up as ladies for the day.

Staged at its Cardigan Road branch, the merchant managed to raise £2000 for the charity. Suppliers were asked to donate prizes for a raffle, while www.artificialgrass.com set up a putting green and held a competition for customers to take part in.

A BBQ was also on hand to sell burgers and hot dogs complete with refreshments.

Andrew Kilduff, assistant branch manager, said: “As it is the first time we have held a charity event, we are all delighted to have raised such a sum for a charity that holds a special place in our hearts.”
