Scottish independent timber merchant, MGM Timber, has bought Hamilton based Robert Reid & Sons Ltd.

The new addition to the MGM Timber line-up, will enable MGM Timber to better service customers in the surrounding area in addition to its existing branches in Glasgow, Wishaw and Ayrshire.

The acquisition comes towards the end of MGM Timber’s 25th anniversary year and forms part of its plans  to grow turnover of the business by at least 50% in the next two years. The company remains on the hunt for premises in Edinburgh and Aberdeen.

MGM Timber started trading in 1991. Over the last 25 years, the business has grown to employ 160 members of staff across 12 sites and had a turnover of £41.68million in 2016, a 14% rise from 2012.

David Mansell, Managing Director for MGM Timber, says: “We already have a number of established and well performing sites across Scotland and the addition of Robert Reid & Sons Ltd will enable us to suitably service customers in the West of Scotland to help meet consumer demand.

“We are looking forward to developing and growing Robert Reid & Sons and ensuring that it remains the local merchant of choice for the town.”

Robert Reid & Sons Ltd will continue to trade under its existing name. All existing staff will be retained.
