Merchants score highly in Toolbank display competition

Four builders merchants were among the top-scorers in tool wholesaler Toolbank’s 2013 Christmas display competition.

The winner was Bute Tools of Rothesay, Scotland, second prize went to Vargails of Cricklewood in north London and MKM’s branch at Withernsea, East Yorkshire, picked up the third prize.

Special mentions went to MKM of Sheffield North; Marlborough Building Supplies, Markovitz Builders Merchants of Derbyshire and Isaac Lord of High Wycombe.

Also gaining special mentions were: Watson Home Hardware of Sutton-on-Sea, Lincolnshire; Dayman of Leicester; Patrick Green of Ingatestone, Essex; Hawkins Home Hardware of Holbeach, Lincolnshire;, Bucks; McCloskeys of Coleraine in Northern Ireland and TL Thomas of Carmarthenshire.

More than 300 entries were received, the highest number ever entered in the competition’s 20-year history, and were assessed by a three-man judging panel: BIRA and BHF chief executive Alan Hawkins, Toolbank sales director Simon Bicknell, and former editor and publisher of BMJ and DIY Week, Colin Petty. The main criteria were good use of space, overall impact, prominent use of the XMS POS material, originality, and the potential to increase sales.
