Merchant move on hold for Tesco planning decision

The relocation of the Chatteris branch of builders merchant Travis Perkins could be in jeopardy following resubmitted plans by supermarket giant Tesco.

A developer, Harrier Developments, wants to build a Tesco supermarket in the Fenland town and relocate the existing Travis Perkins premises, adding a tool hire facility.

However, the original plans approved were for a much smaller supermarket and have now been resubmitted to increase the space by 75%.

The application is now before the council and is expected to come before the planning committee later this year.

Previous applications attracted many objections with some worried about late night opening and traffic clogging access roads.
