LBS adds new builders merchant branch

Welsh independent builders merchant LBS Builders Merchants has acquired a new branch, taking their total to 14 across Wales.

The acquisition of the one acre Jones & Skinner branch in Maesteg is the company’s furthest east and comes as the builders merchant celebrates its 80th year.

LBS has retained the six existing Jones & Skinner staff and is also creating a number of new positions at the site, which will be filled by people from the local area. In addition to the product range and stocks, the company is investing in updating IT systems to continue to offer award-winning levels of customer service.

Managing director Mark Davies said: “We are delighted to announce the opening of our new Maesteg branch. We hope to build on the hard work of Keri Jones and Paul Skinner who have built a successful business over the past 20 years.

“LBS is celebrating 80 years of successful trading in 2011, but we continue to look to the future. Our continued investment and growth has not only provided job security to our existing staff during a difficult economic time, but it is one of the few companies in Wales that have continued to grow their workforce, securing and delivering jobs in areas where unemployment has increased significantly and attracting inward investment is difficult.

“We look forward to employing more local people to help us make this branch a real success as LBS keeps growing at an exciting, yet controlled rate.”
