Lafarge Cement UK, has won a Business in the Community (BITC) Award for Excellence, recognising the company’s commitment to the environment.

The Eco-Efficiency Award recognises a ‘strategic, comprehensive and innovative approach to reducing waste and natural resource use’. In Lafarge’s case this includes reducing its process waste by 80% and increasing its use of waste materials.

Competition was impressive with other companies on the shortlist including Ford, Toyota and Boots the Chemists.

Former US Vice President, and environmental campaigner, Al Gore presented the award to Lafarge Cement UK’s managing director, Erdogan Pekenc, and national environment manager, Danny Lawrence.
