A three-man team from East Anglian independent builders merchant Kent Blaxill has completed its first lighthouse lantern room reglazing.

The job was at Folkestone Lighthouse and the Kent Blaxill glaziers were onsite for three days removing all existing glass and putties and then supplying and fitting 12 new curved glass panels.

The glass was 10 mm clear float glass, triangular in shape, and curved to suit the lantern.

The lighthouse, which still works, was refurbished by Tideworks Services Ltd for owner Roger DeHann, the former owner of SAGA holidays which is based in Folkestone.

Kent Blaxill was put forward for the job by Trinity House of Harwich, which owns and runs the lighthouses around the coast of Britain.

Steve Last, Kent Blaxill glass department commerical manager, said: “It is the first time we have re-glazed a lighthouse, but it was contract we were able to tender for because of the specialist skills we have.”
