JT Atkinson buy into timber merchant market

JT Atkinson & Sons, the northern independent builders merchants have bought Hathaway & Hoyle Timber Merchants in Stockton-on-Tees.
Hathaway & Hoyle were established in 1971 and trade from a two and a half acre site in Stockton on Tees.

One of the few remaining independent timber merchants in the North East, Hathaway and Hoyle stocks a wide range of carcassing timber, mouldings and sheet materials, as well as having the facilities for milling and timber treatment and the ability to design and manufacture I-Joists.

Atkinsons managing director, Edwin Atkinson, says that the company had identified the need to develop further into timber and timber engineering anyway, when the opportunity to acquire Hathaway and Hoyle presented itself.

“The company has a solid customer base and delivers over a wide geographical area. It is our intention to supply our existing branches as well as develop sales from the Stockton branch.”

Atkinson added: “I am delighted Hathaway & Hoyle are joining our company and Tom Hoyle will be actively involved in the continued development of the timber business.”

JT Atkinson & Sons now operate from eight branches and intend to continue to look for new opportunities to open branches in the Cumbria, North Yorkshire and County Durham trading area.
