Jewson helps complete self-build dream

Builders merchant Jewson has helped to complete a dream home for a couple on the West Coast of Scotland.

Jewson helps complete self-build dream

Stewart and Heather Orr purchased a plot of land and built small chalet on site to live in for the duration of the build.

Orr then designed the four-bedroom, timber-clad home himself, with the overall aim of maximising the views of the West Coast – so the chalet style property incorporates lots of glass.

The property, named ‘Aspen’ due to its timber-clad exterior, was completed in just over 18 months.

The Orrs used the Jewson Self Build Consultation Service , a free no obligation consultation service offers practical advice for anyone undertaking a self build project from planning stages to final installation.

Customers can request a Jewson representative to visit the site to discuss anything from bricks and blocks to renewable technologies such as solar PV systems, rainwater harvesting and ground source heat pumps.

Furthermore, they can take advantage of a £20,000 Jewson credit facility, a free copy of the Jewson Sustainable Building Guide, personalised prices across 400,000 products and a support network of over 500 branches nationwide.

Orr said: “Anyone who has built their own home understands how tough and challenging it can be. As I’m a joiner by trade, I was already a Jewson customer, so I wanted to utilise my local branch as much as possible. The advantage was that we could a purchase wide range of materials, all the timber, bricks, cement, roof tiles, plumbing products and even our kitchen, from one source of supply. ”
