James Hargreaves take on bistrack

North West based plumbers’ merchant, James Hargreaves, has taken on the bisTrack range of business software products from Progressive Solutions.

James Hargreaves take on bistrack

Managing Director, Gordon Rothwell, says the company had been using a Unix based merchant package migrated to Linux, but found that it wasn’t able to give the company the information it really needed.

bisTrack is designed for merchants, timber companies and other suppliers within the construction sector. It has been developed in the familiar Microsoft style which means it’s easy and familiar for most users. It manages sales, controls stock, simplifies purchasing and gathers intelligence. Around 100 James Hargreaves staff will be using the system.

Rothwell says: “Supply chain management is crucial to the merchant side of the business and we believe that the bisTrack package covers all bases in that respect. In day to day terms, the staff’s speed of access to products within the pricebook is a key feature. As an expanding business we regularly need to train new staff on the sales order processing side.

“Whereas our previous system was poor in terms of product search, bisTrack will revolutionise our trade counters due to the ease of locating product on the system. The lead time to get a new recruit up to speed should fall from about three months to maybe as little as a week.”

James Hargreaves’ bathroom showroom in Burnley displays more than 60 bathroom suites. Rothwell believes bisTrack will make life much easier for the showroom staff as they will be able to create specials on the fly from an electronic catalogue, rather than the manual approach currently used.

bisTrack is also expected to free up the time of key management staff because of the comprehensive range of business information which will now be readily available to them via the system. The system is being implemented across all 25 branches and two showrooms and branch managers will have a greater degree of control over their branches through the information available to them via their bisTrack ‘dashboards’ and the sophisticated pricing rules that will be at their disposal.

The Webtrack customer portal is an optional module to the bisTrack system and will allow James Hargreaves’ customers direct on-line access to their accounts. bisTrack also offers an optional internet trading option which the company may look at implementing in the future.
