Institute hands over presidency

Builders merchants organisation the Institute of Builders Merchants has handed over the presidency at its 42nd AGM.

The AGM was held on March 8 at the Johnson Building in Derby College.

Outgoing President Rebecca Mason confirmed that the Institute had had a very busy year. Activity included increasing press coverage, boosting member numbers by 62%, running two Practical Building Skills Challenge Events and launching a new website www.iobm.co.uk together with Institute Linkedin and Facebook pages;

Mason said “The Institute is keen to be seen as “Professionalising our Industry” and that includes recognising high achievers. In 2010, we were pleased to present Stephanie Harris of International Timber with the Mason Elliott Trophy and £250 for being the BMF Highest Achiever at NVQ Level 3.”

Andrew Pine, the incoming President said “I’m very encouraged to be taking on the Presidency at a time when so much has been done not only to stabilise the position of the Institute, but also to create a strong platform from which we can now push ahead with future developments. Key amongst these will be further enhancements to our website aimed at re-engaging existing members, as well as creating greater attraction for new members, and further development of our Practical Building Skills training initiative.”
