The boxing evening was compered by former England rugby union player Martin Bayfield, and attended by celebrities including John Conteh, Shane Williams, Joe Calzaghe and Sean Fitzpatrick.

In addition to staging the finals of the Welsh Guards’ boxing tournament, the evening featured a charity auction and music from the Band of the Welsh Guards.

In total the boxing evening raised a highly impressive £130,000 for the Welsh Guards Afghanistan Appeal, which helps the Welsh Guards to support those wounded on operations, and the families and dependants of those killed or seriously wounded in action.

The event was part of the testimonial year of former Wales rugby union captain Ryan Jones, who said: “I’m honoured to be able to offer support to the Welsh Guards Afghanistan Appeal. The work that our forces are doing in difficult circumstances is inspirational to everyone, particularly to guys like myself who in many ways lead quite pampered lifestyles.”
