GAI appoints full-time education manager

The Guild of Architectural Ironmongers (GAI) has announced the appointment of Keith Maer as full-time education manager.

GAI appoints full-time education manager

Maer was previously Chair of the GAI’s Education Committee and will take up the role from 1 January 2010.

He will be in charge of accelerating and completing the conversion of the GAI’s education programme’s materials into an open learning style and completing the change over to electronic and online formats. This process is a key part of the GAI’s strategy to modernise and develop its education programme, investing in training and development at a time when many companies are cutting their expenditure.

He will also work towards gaining formal recognition of the Diploma from outside the architectural ironmongery industry so that companies and individuals can secure external funding for their studies. He will also develop further education products for the GAI to offer its Membership and other external parties.

“After forty years in the industry – twenty of which have been involved with education – I can bring a wealth of experience to this new role,” says Maer. “I’m certainly looking forward to the new challenges. As I often say to students, education is not a destination in itself, but a gateway to new opportunities, and I see this new position in the same light.”
