Director boosts Macmillan charity push

Helen Gemmell, marketing director at Selco Builders Warehouse, completed the London Winter 10km Run to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support, which supports and improves the lives of people affected by cancer.

She completed the run in the capital in a personal best time of 56 mins 40 secs, and raised over £1,800 for Macmillan.

Since 2012, Selco employees, customers and suppliers have raised over £250,000 for Macmillan and are now pushing to break through the £300,000 barrier.

Gemmell said: “It was a great course running around the sights of the capital. The weather was wet and cold but there was a really good atmosphere on the day. It was a great experience and I’m delighted to have taken part.

“To break through the hour mark was really satisfying and made all the hard work during training worthwhile.

“But to raise more than £1,800 for Macmillan and boost the Selco target was certainly the most pleasing part.

“The work Macmillan carry out to support those affected by cancer can be invaluable and, with cancer affecting people very close to me, it gave me even more incentive to do the run.”

Selco, the leading building supplies, equipment and tool provider, has a host of further fundraising activities planned for Macmillan this year,

Other initiatives in 2016 include charity golf days, a cycle challenge, a nominated charity match at Selco-sponsored T20 cricket side Birmingham Bears and participation in the national Macmillan Coffee Morning.
