Following an 18-month project, Derby builders merchant Lakes Buildbase has transformed and improved its five-acre site in the city.
Lakes Buildbase, part of Grafton Merchanting GB, has been in business in Derby for nearly 100 years and underwent a three-phase project to extend and improve the facilities for its customers and staff.
The main sales area, including building materials, roofing, Hirebase and offices, has been rebuilt and more than doubled in size. The plumbing and heating area, previously run from a separate branch in Great Northern Road, has been relocated to the Parcel Terrace site and now includes a kitchen and bathroom showroom. A fully-equipped timber service mill has been added and a new hard landscaping display has been created to display the latest decorative paving, walling and fencing products.
The business, whose history dates back nearly a hundred years in the area, employs 50 staff.
Derby County FC manager Nigel Clough and club president Tom Glick performed the official relaunch.
“We’re delighted that Nigel and Tom were here to join in our celebrations,” says John Lake, Buildbase regional director. “Many of our customers and staff are keen supporters and as a company we’ve given our backing to the club for decades. Both Nigel and Tom are customers.
“The building industry has been badly hit by the recession and, like everyone else, we’ve been affected by this. However, the company has made considerable investment to upgrade the branch and make it one of the most impressive builders merchants in the Midlands. We’re looking forward to welcoming customers and showing them the new facilities. We have many loyal customers who have been trading here for generations and this is a very exciting time as we move into a new era.”
