Clover puts his best foot forward for RDT trek

Rainy Day Trust CEO Bryan Clover is attempting to walk 84 miles in just 48 hours, starting this Friday (September 17) at 07.00.

Walking solo, Clover will be carrying around 40lbs, including a change of clothes, first aid kit, torches, power packs, water and food. He will be walking along the Kennet and Avon Canal, for 84 miles from Bath to eastern Reading, being met at regular intervals with refreshments by sponsor South West builders merchants Kellaway Building Supplies. He is setting off on the epic journey from Kellaway’s Bath branch.

All money raised will support the Rainy Day Trust’s mental health programme. “Walking is proven to be really good for your mental health as well as just general physical health,” Clover said. “Mental health benefits from the bilateral movement associated with walking. I have been preparing for this challenge by walking and participating in other organised walks in my local area.

“My main challenge will be ensuring I take on enough fuel to keep my energy levels up! I’m hugely grateful to Kellaway Building Supplies who will be meeting me at regular stops along the way with food and water. Thanks too to our other major sponsors Dulux, Home Hardware, Stax, Dexam and Burton McCall.”

Clover is aiming to complete between 53 and 55 miles in the first 24 hours, leaving ‘just’ 30 miles for Day Two. “If all goes to plan I hope to finish in around 40 hours, approximately 10pm on Saturday night,” he said.

Sean Morgan, operations & commercial director at Kellaway Building Supplies said the company was in awe of Clover’s determination to complete the task. “It’s incredible what Bryan is setting out to do and we’re delighted to help support him and the Rainy Day Trust,” he said. “The charity does some amazing work for colleagues in our sector, so we were determined to help in any way we could.”
