Cemex start spending

Cemex have kicked off their ambitious 2008 national investment programme in the UK with a state-of-the art concrete plant in East London.
At a cost of £2.2m the new plant will replace the existing one, which has been in operation since the 1960s. Externally the plant will look the same, but inside, twin mixer units will ensure, say Cemex, the plant has the highest output in the UK, producing some 180 cubic metres an hour – enough to fill two double decker buses!

The new plant will be complemented by the facility for out-of-hours cement and aggregates deliveries to ease congestion, and two concrete ‘recyclers’ to reduce waste disposal and recycle surface water in the concrete mixes.

Total annual investment this year is expected to exceed £65m, and increase of £5m on last year.
