Cemex have appointed Gonzalo Galindo as new country president for the business in the UK with immediate effect.
Mr Galindo comes to the UK from Madrid, where he was previously vice president of strategic planning and integrated functions coordinator for Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Australia. His main responsibility was to secure growth and extend the Cemex footprint across the Region.
In the UK Mr Galindo will be responsible for a business that generates more than £1bn in annual sales and which employs more than 5,000 people across a network of over 500 locations.
Mr Galindo says he is optimistic that although the UK economy is slowing and construction growth looks sluggish, improvements across all the company’s business sectors will be delivered in 2008. This will be achieved, he says, by focusing on customers, pricing discipline and operational efficiencies. He will also take responsibility for building on the company’s health and safety record “to reach the ultimate goal of 0 accidents.”
Mr Galindo replaces Ignacio Ortiz, who has taken up a new position as president for Cemex in the southern Europe and Middle East region.
