Church’s experience in merchanting includes 35 years with Travis Perkins and then with fellow h&b Group member, Bradfords group where he was managing director of Snows Timber.

Buttle plc chairman Peter Buttle, said: “We are delighted to welcome Ian, whose experience will be invaluable as our business deals with the current COVID-19 emergency and looks to rebuild itself for a changed future. Nick was planning to (retire) last summer, but with the industry downturn, Brexit uncertainty, a general election, a poor start to this year and then the Coronavirus to top it all, it’s not been easy to get the timing right. I am very grateful to have had him at the helm over the past three years and especially during this difficult period. I’m sure we all wish him well for the future”.

Church said: “I’m both delighted and honoured to be joining Buttle as its managing director. This is a very exciting opportunity to join a strong, highly respected independent merchant with a proud history and opportunities to grow.”
