Builders Supply Company takes over Kirkby’s site

Cumbrian family-run builders merchant Builders Supply Company is expanding into Ulverston having bought the premises and stock of the former Kirkby’s builders merchant in the town.
Kirkby’s went into administration last month and will represent the third branch for Builders Supply Company.

The branch will be known as Builders Supply Company (Ulverston) and is due to open on Monday in the former Kirkby’s premises in North Lonsdale Road.

Builders Supply Company chairman Terry Hill told buildersmerchantsjournal.net that the company had been looking at expanding into the Ulverston area for some time and that this was a good opportunity for them.

“With branches in Kendal and Barrow-in-Furness, Ulverston is a good fit being almost halfway between the two,” he said.

The company is also aqcuiring the property and stock of a company in Grange-over-Sands.

12 members of staff lost their jobs when Kirkby’s went into adminstration.
