Builders merchants help hospitalised children

The company, supported by suppliers including Lafarge Cement UK and Dulux, has donated funds to Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC), which aims to provide free ‘home away from home’ accommodation at hospitals across the UK.

The donation has been used to sponsor a family TV lounge at the new Ronald McDonald House at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, the charity’s largest purpose built accommodation facility to date. The House provides 60 ensuite bedroomsand facilities to enable families to cook and eat together.

NBG executive chairman, Allan Durning says: “This charity does an amazing job right around the country. As the hospital staff are doing a great job looking after the children, Ronald McDonald House Charities is providing a ‘behind the scenes’ service which really makes a difference to the families of those children.

“The 14 Houses across the UK enable families to stay close to their child and maintain a degree of normal family life. The charity now provides over 400 bedrooms and 29 sets of Family Rooms – all in, or in close proximity to, the grounds of UK hospitals and hospices. The families stay free of charge and for as long as they need to – whether it’s for two nights or two years.

“At NBG we wanted to ‘do our bit’ for this fantastic charity and so along with Help for Heroes, we chose it as one of our main charities for this year. We would like to thank our suppliers for their contribution to this donation to RMHC in Birmingham.”

NBG aims to continue to support RMHC with another substantial donation raised via the company’s Christmas conference to be held in London on December 6.
