Builders Merchants Journal – BMJ Publishing to Builders Merchants and the UK merchanting industry for more than 95 years
Builders merchants chain Buildbase have appointed Stephen Thompstone as their new managing director. The appointment is effective from October 1 2008.
He takes over from former Buildbase CEO Kevin Middleton who was promoted to head up the new Grafton Merchanting GB operation in April.
Thompstone has over 30 years’ experience in the builders merchants industry and joined Buildbase in 1998. He was appointed director of northern division – now with 80 branches – and a Buildbase board director in 2004.
This newly created role of Buildbase brand MD is part of Grafton Group’s integration of GB merchanting within a single structure. Grafton Merchanting GB brings together the majority of Grafton Group’s merchant subsidiaries in Great Britain including Buildbase, Plumbase, Jackson Building Centres, Buildbase Civils & Lintels, Hirebase, PDM, Hendricks Lovell, Keelsupply and Acorn Insulation.
