Build Center branch under fire from local residents

The branch of builders merchant chain Build Center in Leatherhead, Surrey, has been accused of making residents’ lives a “living hell”.

Mole Valley District Council said it had received complaints from three residents about the Build Center and that an environmental health officer visited the site to address the issue of noise nuisance.

The complaints centered around the issues of noise made by lorries and fork lift trucks and concrete slabs stacked against residents’ garden fences, which had, on occasion, fallen over into residents’ gardens.

A spokesman for the council said that alternative audible reversing warning bleepers for site vehicles are currently being investigated along with other methods of damping down the noise from empty forklift trucks, the main source of the noise disturbance.

A Build Center spokesman said the company takes complaints “extremely seriously” and added: “We are meeting with the council in the coming weeks to try to resolve the issues raised.

” Build Center recognises and respects its position as part of the local community.”
