BSS scores double in safety awards

BSS have won major awards in recognition of their contribution towards health and safety from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) and H&V News.
The company was honoured with the Silver Achievement Award in the 2016 Health and Safety Awards while H&V News named the company’s safety programme LiFT, the Safety Initiative of the Year in their annual competition.

RoSPA praised the high health and safety standards upheld by BSS over the last 12 months, highlighting the effective leadership that its directors and senior managers play in defining the health and safety strategy, in addition to their integrated approach to health and safety management.

LiFT was developed to cut manual handling accidents and injuries, and involved all staff coming up with ways to avoid lifting completely and then communicating these throughout its branch network. The result was fewer incidents and improved customer service as time was freed up for other tasks.

BSS safety director, Richard Byrne commented: “We were keen to celebrate safety success and these awards help us to underline the fact that we are achieving great results. Our obligation to health and safety extends to our workforce, the contractors we employ, stakeholders that we work with, and members of the public. We are extremely proud that this effort has been acknowledged by both RoSPA and H&V News.”
