BSS reports strong start

Plumbers merchant group the BSS Group plc improved sales by 11.5% year-on-year for the first 17 weeks of this year, according to a management trading statement.

The group, which includes the PTS, F&P, UGS, Birchwood Price Tools, Buck & Hickman and BSS Industrial brands, has reported total revenue for the 17 weeks of £435.3m, up by £45.0m. New branches contributed 1.2% and acquisitions a further 3.3% of Group revenue growth.

The domestic division revenue grew by 7.6% in terms of like for like sales thanks to market share gains in new build residential plus solid sales from the RMI market. activity. New business streams such as spares and renewables continued to show strong growth with revenue up 46% on last year.

UGS, acquired on 5 February 2010 for £5.2m, is now back into profit and is trading above plan.

Whilst the economic outlook remains uncertain, the Board believes that the Group’s focus on revenue growth, margin improvement and tight control of costs would enable it to outperform the market.

The Board continues to work with Travis Perkins PLC in support of the recommended offer to acquire the group.
