Boiler scrappage scheme merchant wins industry accolade

The plumbers merchant behind the previous government’s Boiler Scrappage Scheme has been honoured with a special industry award at the Corgi Awards
Mick Williams, managing director of Fareham-based Williams & Co, picked up the Corgi Award for Contribution to Plumbing & Heating at the ceremony at the InstallerLive show last week. The presentation was in recognition of his efforts in setting up first a Downing Street petition and then the Reheat Britain campaign.

The scheme, which offered householders £400 off the installation of a new Band A boiler – provided it replaced a Band G boiler, was announced in the Pre-Budget Report in December last year. Williams’ success was not only in getting the bscheme adopted, but also in working with government departments to ensure that it benefitted installers and merchants as well.

Williams told buildersmerchantsjournal.net that he was “chuffed that it came from the industry itself.”
