The awards celebrate outstanding achievement by apprentices across a range of sectors. Guest of Honour was HRH The Princess Royal and the event was hosted by Claire Young, a former finalist on the BBC TV programme The Apprentice.

Bence’s managing director Paul Bence said: “At Bence we really wanted to get involved with these awards as they are recognising some of the most enthusiastic young people who have chosen the apprenticeship route to a worthwhile career in construction.

“At a time of increasing unemployment amongst young people, the Government have placed the apprenticeship programme high on its priorities.

“We are taking advantage of the scheme by registering many of our current staff on NVQ programmes and recruiting new apprentices within the Company, these measures are key to the future success of the business.”

Another Cheltenham building industry name was recognised at the awards, when Oliver Jones, of shower manufacturer Kohler Mira Ltd, was named Outstanding Higher Apprentice of the Year.
