Bence gets a temporary make-over

Cheltenham independent builders merchant George Bence & Sons has commissioned a trompe l’oeil design to promote its landscaping display.

Designed and painted by artists Teresa Poole, the trompe l’oeil is in the style of an Italianate palazzo on the side of the company’s Fairview Road building in Cheltenham.

Managing director Paul Bence decided to have the mural created to help improve the look of the area.

He said it was essentially a “posh billboard” that he had created for his landscape display in the yard.

He added: “I think it looks absolutely great. It is something a bit different, but also something classy and classical. I must admit to be slightly proud of our creation.”

Bence plans to keep the mural in place for the next three or four years, then replace it with something else.
