Bekstone wins PM congratulations

Stone landscaping supplier Bekstone, part of the Pavestone Group of Companies, won a sustainability award and a letter of congratulations from the Prime Minister.

Bekstone wins PM congratulations

Bekstone won the ‘Oxfordshire County Council Sustainability Category” at the 2011 Oxford Business Awards and was congratulated in a letter from local Oxfordshire MP David Cameron, who happens to also be the Prime Minister.

Bekstone won the award by showing its commitment to the environment and responsibility in minimising the impact caused by their operations and supply chain by utilising reclaimed aggregates and recycled water in all manufacturing processes.

The judges were particularly impressed with the way Bekstone chose to use 100% sustainable “green” electricity to power both production facilities and their offices, culminating in a 40% reduction in carbon emissions during the last two years.

Managing director Kevin Fowler said: “It is truly gratifying to be sought out and nominated for such a prestigious award by the Oxford Business Awards Council let alone to win outright the category. Opening the mail a few days later I noticed a letter from the House of Commons. Can you imagine my excitement to see it was a letter of congratulation from the Prime Minister, David Cameron.”
