Following AFC Yorkshire’s recent move to their new home at Wombwell Recreation Ground, Barnsley, local tradesman will be coming together this weekend to carry out a ‘DIY SOS’ style makeover on the club’s heating and hot water system.
Thanks to John Powney from Love your Plumber, who organised the heating makeover, local merchants and businesses have donated products, including radiators and copper piping, and Ideal Boilers is donating two Ideal Logic+ boilers to ensure the players at the junior football club have hot water for showers and heating for the clubhouse.
Volunteers, including a number of heating engineers who heard about the club’s heating plight on the Gas Chat online forum, will be pulling together to get the install done.
Luke King, Ideal Boilers’ Area Sales Manager, who will be helping out on the day said’ “The work the club does with the young players, to not only develop their football skills but also build their life skills off the field, really makes a difference. At Ideal Boilers we are keen to support the community so when we heard about the club’s need to upgrade the heating system to ensure the players could shower and keep warm when they came off the pitch we were delighted to help.”
The club’s move to Wombwell Recreation Ground started this week. Over the next 12 months it aims to see a fully refurbished club house, a new players’ lounge and equipment store and much more.
Robert Furniss, Treasurer of Wombwell Recreation Ground said, “This move has been a long term project for us. The ground was at the heart of the community for many years but over recent times it has been left to go to ruin. Help from local tradesman and businesses, like Ideal Boilers, to make our dream a reality is absolute magic.”
If you want to get involved and lend a helping hand, volunteers are welcome to come along anytime over the weekend. Work starts at 8am Saturday.
