BMJ and the Builders Merchants Federation have launched the 2017 Young Achiever Awards and the entry forms are available for download here.

The 2017 BMJ BMF Young Achiever Award will be a manager under 35 years old, who has demonstrated an ability to go above and beyond in their business; coming up with, and implementing, new ideas and concepts or spotting new opportunities that really enhance the business.

The winner will receive a cash prize of £2,000 and an educational trip to Sweden courtesy of timber supplier SCA Timber.

The main Award is for merchant managers, however, there is also a BMJ/BMF Young Supplier Achiever Award, in recognition of the efforts that suppliers go to ensure good working relationships with their customers, and the difference that getting it right can make to both businesses.

The Judging Panel is made up of John Newcomb, BMF managing director, Fiona Russell-Horne, BMJ Editor in Chief and representatives from the BMF, the Sponsors and the current chairman of the BMF Young Merchant Group, Victoria Fiddies.

BMJ Editor-in-Chief Fiona Russell Horne said: “We talk a lot about the need to bring more young talent into the industry to ensure we have a future. Whilst this is undoubtedly true, we also .need to highlight those who are already working hard in our industry. There is a massive pool of talent amongst younger people in this industry and if we don’t recognize and celebrate it, it will find other industries that will.

This award serves to laud those young people who are already making huge contributions to their businesses and to the communities those businesses operate in.”
