The new branches - a further eight of which are promised this year - feature working renewable technology displays, bathroom showrooms, a wide range of water efficient products and fully equipped training facilities.

The Orpington branch was opened by local MP Jo Johnson, who said: "Plumb Center is an illustrious example of the Government's Green Deal - supporting British jobs and British business to build a green economy for the 21st Century - and I am delighted that it's right here in Orpington."

Plumb Center managing director Keith Jones said: "These new branch formats offer installers the opportunity to have first-hand experience with the latest in water efficient products, as well as allowing them to interact with working renewable displays.

"We believe that educating installers and, indeed, the general public on eco-friendly products - what is available, how they are installed and the efficiencies which they will bring - is vital to ensuring a green-future for the UK. Creating a new generation of 'eco-wise' installers really is essential. "
