Buildbase to generate new recycling stream
Builders merchants Buildbase have installed 27 in-branch balers to support their nationwide recycling policy across their 150 builders merchant branches.
Gloucester Buildbase branch manager James Keyse could cut skip costs by up to 40% with the new baler policy.
The balers, from Mil-tek, will compact segregated cardboard and plastics for onward recycling, reducing the number of skips that Buildbase are sending to landfill.
Not only will the builders merchant be able to reduce their waste management costs but they will be able to make money from selling the recyclable materials.
Buildbase health, safety and environmental manager Steve Follows believes the company may be able to save up to £70 per tonne of cardboard and £100 per tonne of plastics. "We're already cutting branch skip costs, in one case by as much as 40%," he says.
